Coming down with a cold? Just add ginger root to boiling water, mix with a sprig of rosemary and a little honey – it’s like a big warm hug. Ginger root tea has been part of naturopathic medicine for thousands of years. It can boost your immune system, help with digestion, decrease stress and lower blood pressure. Ginger root is the gnarly, fibrous bit of the ginger plant, zingiber officinale. The taste is intense: a peppery sinus blast that mellows over time. In fact it’s better to over-steep ginger root: you’ll smooth the flavour notes and bring out the sweetness.
Origin: India.
Ingredients: Ginger Root Cut.
Serving Suggestion: Add 2 teaspoons and brew in 90-95ºC water for 10-20 minutes (the longer the better, really). Serve with honey, lemon or fresh rosemary.
