Fun fact: spearmint and peppermint aren’t quite the same. For one thing spearmint a naturally occurring herb (peppermint is technically a cross between spearmint and watermint). It’s also sweeter and more subtle than its peppery little brother, with just 0.5 per cent menthol, so you don’t get that cooling blast on the tongue. Spearmint tends to pair better with savoury flavours (and mojitos), while peppermint works better with chocolate (and candy canes). Spearmint tea is great for digestion troubles, including nausea and vomiting, and it’s chock full of antioxidants like rosmarinic acid, limonene and menthol. You can brew it hot, or serve chilled over ice with orange and summer berries.
Origin: Egypt.
Ingredients: Organic Spearmint Leaves.
Serving suggestion: Add 1-2 teaspoons and brew in 90-95ºC water for 10 minutes. Sweeten with honey to taste.
